The Final Countdown

July 4th 2007

I've been up already for over two hours. It truly is amazing how our bodies work to prepare us for coming events. Paul keeps reminding me that next week I'll be up several times a night breastfeeding - crazy to think about when you know its coming. So he was up at 5am today as well preparing for a 20-mile run with a friend. Nana, Grandpa, and GG were up at 5am and are on the road from Chicago. Jackie will be waking soon and we'll spend some time together eating a leisurely breakfast and then it will be off to daycare. What are we up to today/this weekend?

Lots of last minute preparation! My reward if I make it to Monday - a pedicure. I can't reach my toes very well anymore. I feel like that will be a nice treat before the hospital stay.

One of the tools we discovered a few years ago is called Ta-Da lists. This has helped Paul and me have a central place for keeping our to-do lists organized and improving communication and goal setting as a family. It is a free tool and easy to use. I encourage you to take a look. It is also quite satisfying to take a look back at old lists and see that yes, indeed you actually got something done when you thought it wasn't possible. We use this for short and long-term goal setting, planning for trips, holidays, babies, etc. Our ta-da list for the new baby still has 10 things on it we'd like to accomplish by Tuesday. I hope we make it!

July 4th weekend includes a town parade, block party, welcoming of family, homemade pizzas, and evening fireworks - all in a 3 block radius.

We also just got a new lens for our Nikon. I can't explain how excited I am about this! Hopefully the photographs of the new baby will reflect this. I'm pretty much done with any point and shoot cameras for now. I used to never want to lug around a 35mm camera to parties or outings, but the picture quality is just so worth the trouble- I do it now. Look at the difference between my posting from yesterday at the gardens and two days before on our front porch. HUGE difference. I've also admired Amanda Blake Soule's photography (author of Soule Mama blog) for the last year now. And guess what? We have the same camera! Awhile back she posted about the lens she uses - it just so happens that its the same lens Paul has been researching for the last year. Both Paul and I have enjoyed dabbling in photography for quite a few years now. We're starting to get more into it again. We welcome your input, suggestions, and ideas as I know many of you are experienced photographers too.

  1. You must be an amazing woman, to accomplish so much in so little time. Your schedule is full, to be sure. My brother was a professional photographer for the Chicago Tribune, so he took scads of pics when he traveled. Most of these were stolen, unfortunately.
Yesterday I babysat for my 3 year old granddaughter, Jasmine, and it was wonderful to be back in SS with her. Enjoy your pedicure-that sounds like a great idea, and wish I'd thought of it when I was PG 3x! Have fun at your block and homemade pizza party. We're having a block party as well, which is actually more of an "eating" frenzy, which is fine, too, since food and I go "way back!"
